Landscapes

I used to describe my landscape paintings as “landscapes of the imagination,” but after President Trump’s inflammatory comments about how Canada should become America’s 51st state, I began to look at my landscapes differently. I recognized how deeply these paintings are rooted in the soil of my childhood, the geography of this country, and the places I call home. I had only to open my eyes to see that my imagery is personal, intense, spiritual and very Canadian.

My passion for trees, forests, the ocean, and mountains is evoked through an expressionist style. Sometimes I combine organic material like leaves and petals with the paint — the medium becoming the message. I hope to convey my connection to the coastal environment where I live; the places that inspire me, open my heart, and feed my soul.
